Oh boy... one of my favorite 4G features is no more leaf springs (YESSSSS). 4G running rear coil springs are awesome (at least I think so), and just like all previous Tacoma models, upgrading your rear spring setup is a must. I went the longest while on my last truck without upgrading and noticed a massive change in comfort and longevity… so don’t be like me and upgrade your springs.
ARB offers a standard and medium-rated coil spring.
- Standard 0 - 400lbs
- Medium 400 - 800lbs
For you folks who have light accessories/bumpers, no camper shell or topper, and engage in minimal or no towing, then the standard rate spring is the way to go.
Any sort of topper, loaded bed rack or consistent towing then the medium rate is likely most ideal for you. I went with standard and have no complaints, however, I’ve got absolutely zero, zip, nada weight in my bed, so I notice it’s stiffer when hitting bumps at high speeds. I’ve towed with the standard-rate springs and had no issues - the truck felt great! Do note that they will settle in after a few hundred miles of weight in the bed.
