- 2024 Tacoma Trailhunter 6ft Bed, Kings, GFC V2 Pro
What an epic journey. Drove from Phoenix AZ beginning on Thursday for a Saturday afternoon install at the Manhattan, MT location. Around 35 hours, 2300 miles. Drove through some light snow and lots of ice over Big Sky Friday and raced back home to beat the snow coming down in Flagstaff AZ Monday morning. From -15 to almost 70 degrees back home. This thing with 3P rated 35” Toyo AT3s handled well in the snow, especially loaded up with the camper. Surprisingly didn’t take much of a hit on fuel economy / tank range, can barely tell the thing is on.
Always love me a good excuse for a road trip. This thing is even more impressive in person, the build quality and attention to detail is incredible. Stoked to be one of the first 6ft bed Tacoma Trailhunter installs out there. Here’s to many last minute unplanned weekend adventures to come.
So far very impressed with the fit and finish of the camper. GFC has a reputation for well built products, this is no exception. My only minor complaint is that the taper of the shell runs a slightly different angle as the bed and it comes over the edge slightly as it reaches the end of the bed. May be made worse because of the 6ft bed option. Let me know if you have any questions, I’ll be doing some more follow up videos and pictures of the interior, my zenbivy sleep setup and cheap Chinese diesel heater review.
For those of you who are going to ask, I did not pre-wire the camera relocation kit before the install. It’s probably gonna be a pain in the ass, but for now I can see through the rearview mirror with the windows I chose as part of the build.
I drove this thing almost 18 hours back and did not notice an increase in wind noise. From the snorkel sound I don’t even think it’s audibly different. Fuel economy dropped maybe a half mile per gallon at most. With 35 inch D load tires , a 3 inch lift and sub freezing weather I averaged about 15.3 miles per gallon at high elevation going 80+.
