Yeah I removed them on both sides and when it still was not opening and I realized it was the metal hitting the latch catch I put them back in. I was able to losen that metal and push it towards the top of the tailgate and solve the problem, the tailgate works now but it’s sooo close to touching...

I removed that rubber bumper on both sides and the problem was still there, turns out the metal around the latch was hitting the latch catch hook on the driver side of the tailgate and giving enough resistance to error out.

Did you ever find the problem? A week after getting mine it has done the same thing.
