So I’ve had the Westcott Designs pre collar kit on my TRD Off-Road Tacoma for about 6 months now so I figured I’d do a review for those interested in this option over a full suspension kit.

PROS:
Allows for larger tires
Improve ground clearance off road
Significantly cheaper over full suspension kits
On road ride quality is unchanged
Available through various retailers

CONS:
Not a full suspension kit
Off road travel is reduced
Still uses soft OEM rear spring

Overall I’m super happy I went with a WD kit out of the gate, while yes a full suspension kit is clearly better, it’s also more $$. This kit allowed me to achieve what I wanted to do with my Tacoma and has held up over the last 6 months perfectly.

What tire size did you end up with?

Any opinions on a spacer kit for the front and rear instead of a collar for the front? Seems like keeping the oem spring rate in the front could help with maintaining travel while still giving a bit of a lift. Would also be significantly easier to install. Really need a lift on my truck haha.

How do
285/75/R17 Nitto RidgeGrapplers
how do you like them thus far after having them for some time? Im still debating if I should go with the ridge grapplers vs the ko3, your insight would be very appreciated

Big fan of these. I wish though they didn’t weigh as much as they do for the c load. But they are great.

This is the best for driving imo. A spacer on top would cause the axles to be at a bad angle and they push the shock down in a way you don’t want it to while off road so imo that would cause more damage than good.

Total lift kit newbie here. Are there any risks to the precollar vs a full lift? The dealer mentioned the warranty isn't voided but any issues with the shocks wouldn't be covered if the lift kit was installed. Thoughts?

Weren't you working with a European suspension company to build a 4th Gen kit? I seem to remember that in your live stream. Anything ever come of that? Also, you had a swing hitch on your 3rd Gen for a spare. Are you still using it? Interested in the brand and pros/cons.

A full suspension kit is better for actual off road. But a pre collar kit is great for clearing bigger tires and mild off road.

Ironman4x4 was supposed to be in the works with one. It is ready now, but I am selling the truck.

How about that Swing hitch. I think I saw in one of your videos that you needed an extra puck in the back because it sank? Which swing hitch were you using? I'm considering LC200 springs for the back anyway. Just wanted to follow up on your experience. When I asked Westcott Designs about that they said you couldn't add another, but I swear I saw you did.

I love posts like these. I find it super helpful while I'm still learning about off-road driving. It's also interesting to understand the difference in needs between hardcore off road versus a weekend hobbyist equipment.
Thanks for sharing, I appreciate your insights.
