Hey everyone! I just got the Backwoods Adventure Mods DRIFTR Roof Rack installed on the truck and let me say, it looks absolutely amazing. I have been looking into roof rack options for a while and I loved the look of Backwoods, plus it sits flush with their Bed Rack and DRIFT Topper setup too which is a huge plus. If you guys are interested in that setup, I wrote a review on that as well in another thread.
Let's talk about the install. One of the huge things I did NOT want to do to my truck as have to drill, and luckily Toyota thought ahead and made the 4G ready to go from factory for roof racks. Backwoods system is a no drill rack and it mounts right into the factory mounting locations on the roof. I was immediately impressed with the packaging and attention to detail when I got the box and opened it up. Backwoods sends you everything you need to mount the rack aside from your tools of course. They even hook you up with silicone in the packaging which I thought was a cool little addition since I didnt have to go buy any separate. Each piece of hardware is bagged separately and labeled so you know exactly what each piece is for which just makes the whole process simple and straightforward. They also include a QR code with links to all their installs which was amazing. Their install videos are supe simple, straightforward, and put together nicely making install a breeze.
The install itself took me about an hour and a half at most. I wanted to take my time to make sure to properly seal all the wholes and prevent any leaks. I also did this as one person with zero issues at all and it was actually super easy. You install the mounts onto the truck first and then add the rails followed by the crossbars. It is a super easy process you can absolutely do solo which is another plus to the rack.
Each piece is made out of aluminum, making this thing super light weighing in at 46 lbs which is a great weight for a heavy-duty rack like this. Backwoods also are very confident in their product and offers lifetime warranties, free powder coats, and a whole list of accessories for the rack. They included 1x3 triple slotted extrusions, slots for roll in T-nuts, side rail cutouts, and predrilled holes for future mounting. They also include slotted cutouts on the front and rear fairings for light mounting.
On the rear fairing they include a light pocket pictured here that will fit Baja Designs S1s or S2s or any light size similarly. I mounted my rear fairing on the back of my DRIFTR Topper on my Bed rack for functionality. I do love that it's so easy to swap parts around like that so the whole system fits my needs perfectly. Backwoods has thought about a lot of these products in-depth which just shows their attention to detail. Their team is super down to earth and helpful, if you have questions on your product or run into issues, they are more than willing to work with you and help you however they can which is unfortunately not a common trait in brands nowadays, so Backwoods gets a huge shoutout for that.
I absolutely love the roof rack setup on the truck so far. I have only had it on a few days, but the lightweight makeup, heavy-duty feel, appealing looks, and lifetime warranty really has me excited about putting this on my truck. On their website you can purchase the roof rack alone, or you can pair it in a combo deal with their bed rack and topper, what you decide is ultimately up to you. The DRIFTR Roof Rack stands great on its own and doesn't need the bed rack, however, running them both together is an amazing combination. Whether you run just the roof rack, or the whole system, I guarantee you will be happy with the system and turning heads in the process.
