- 2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO

Hey everyone, I wanted to talk about the newest mod I installed on the TRD Pro build! I wanted a perfect way to secure and store all my overland gear I take on the trail but also wanted to retain usage of my truck bed. I recently got their Bed Rack system, DRIFTR Topper, DRIFTR Deck Panels, and their DRIFTR Roof Rack. I am primarily going to be discussing their Bed Rack, DRIFTR Topper, and Deck panels in this thread. I will write a separate thread for their roof rack.
Right off the bat the packaging and organization they put into their shipping is incredible. Also, shoutout to Toyota for the JBL Speaker, I love using this thing. There is nothing more that I hate than getting a product and the packing being in shambles, backwoods has you covered and I really appreciate their attention to detail. An added bonus is they have all their installs categorized on their website via this QR code, they make the process seamless, and their install videos are extremely helpful as well.
The install was an absolute breeze; I had my dad over (he has a 4g and is thinking of pulling the trigger on his truck as well), we threw it together and on the truck in less than 1.5 hours. The process is super straightforward and simple, we likely could have done it quicker, but we wanted to take our time. Just a note on that, if you are planning to install it alone, you absolutely can. I definitely could have done this project solo, each piece is insanely light, and the install is very simple. Each piece is beautifully crafted, and you can tell Backwoods is meticulous on their attention to detail from the second you open the box to the end of the install. Once you get the bed rack together you then piece the DRIFTR topper onto it and mount it which is also extremely easy.
There is a lot to love about this rack and topper setup it is honestly difficult where to even start. I was running a camper shell on the truck previously to this and I did love the extra storage, but a huge factor to a lot of shells is the weight. You either have to sacrifice your wallet to save weight or take the savings and weigh the truck down. That was a huge factor to me for my truck and let me tell you this combo is INSANELY light for what it is. The Bed rack alone is 45lbs, the topper is 40lbs for a total weight of 85lbs. When installing this thing you can immediately tell how lightweight it is. Backwoods doesn't sacrifice quality either as they use high quality aluminum for the whole setup which is also USA made which is a plus for some.
It also comes fully powder coated free of cost which is a huge plus. As you can see on the rack has all sorts of different channels and cutouts as well making it really easy to mount just about anything you want on this thing which gives you a ton of freedom to make it exactly how you want. I would highly recommend going with both the bed rack and the DRIFTR topper if you are interested in the setup, and I would also even include their roof rack if you can. Backwoods has a bunch of different custom combos on their website and you can make one with all three of these items in it which saves you some cash.
This was how she sat before the DRIFTR Roof Rack install. The entire rack is super heavy duty and seems like it will absolutely stand the test of time. They are so confident in their products they even offer lifetime warranties on their products which again just shows they make these things to last. One of the other HUGE things I love about this rack is the versatility. Whether you run your truck for contracting, or you are a fulltime overlander, or anywhere between, this thing absolutely will meet your needs. On their website they also offer a huge amount of aftermarket support for it. They have several optional add-ons currently including bike mounts, awning mounts, traction board mounts, deck panels, and my personal favorite their aluminum storage box. I am waiting to get the storage box and will definitely be talking about it as soon as I get it. A huge love I had for my camper shell was lockable storage, their aluminum storage box is yet again lightweight and offers the ability to add lockable, safe storage to your rack which I personally love for securing expensive equipment like air compressors and tools.
I opted for some deck panels on the DRIFTR Topper which will allow me to secure a bunch of different items in the future to the roof. These things are super heavy duty as well and mounting each on took me less than 5 minutes each.
I added 4 deck panels, but you could absolutely put more all the way down and create a fully flush platform. The team at Backwoods has even brought camping chairs up on the roof which is pretty sweet if you ask me. Speak of the team, the customer support through Backwoods is unmatched. The team truly cares about their customers and making sure not only that their product is superb, but also that the experience is outstanding.
The summarize, this product is absolutely a must have on your truck if you are in the market for a bed rack system. Adding the DRIFTR Roof Rack to the build just pulls the whole system together and makes the truck look absolutely amazing. The setup complements the 4G Taco's lines and it just looks amazing. The TRD Pro is a great truck but is already pretty heavy when you consider the hybrid system and I myself am currently running 35s. The truck runs amazing but any weight I can save I will happily take and Backwoods made that very possible while still adding a huge amount of functionality to the truck. I think this system is going to be a huge game changer for a lot of us in the community and I am also very excited to see what other accessories and products Backwoods has up their sleeve for the 4G.
