I was originally going to change at 1k miles, but I got busy and had to do some driving. Ended up at just over 2,500 miles. My truck came with 2 free oil changes, and I called in advance to make sure the dealer didn't care if I was requesting the service outside the normal interval. I had to explain myself a few times, but they understood and the whole thing was covered. The main reason for doing this was to remove any contaminants and metal from the initial break-in. I've heard several different recommendations, but decided 2,500 miles worked as well. I'll continue at the 5,000 interval moving forward, even if Toyota says you can go 10k. Cheap maintenance, in my opinion.

I did about the same as you. First one at 3k and then will do 5k
People will slag about the money but when has it been bad to change the oil too much?

I got over 300,000 trouble free miles on my last truck and would still be driving it today if a deer hadn't gotten in the way.
It got its oil changed at 3K religiously.

Yeah not sure why the cost would be prohibitive when the vehicles are this expensive. You'd think a couple hundred bucks would be a small cost to make sure the engine is running the best it can.

5K is my max and typical window. 3K is certainly more aggressive haha. Would love to see an internal report of engines running at 3K, 5K, 10K. To see what the build up, etc. looks like over 50-100k. Would be quite the project though!
