Raising Bed Rail Solution - 4th Gen Tacoma

Has anyone tried this 3D-printed shim for the new Tacoma bed rails? It’s supposed to sit under the plastic cap up front and keep the edge from lifting when you clamp stuff down.

My SmartCap seems to be putting just enough pressure on the rail that it’s starting to raise the outer edge, and it bugs me every time I look at it. I saw this shim on Printables and it looks like a pretty clean idea, but I’m wondering if anyone’s actually printed and run it yet.

Does it hold up well once installed, or is it more of a temporary band-aid? Would love to hear some real-world feedback before I go through the hassle of finding someone who can print me a set.

I would imagine, you would want UV and heat resistant PLA to help avoid it warping.

I would print in PETG and maybe consider using ABS or ASA. While I have not 3d printed this wedge, I have 3d printed some other things for my tacoma in PETG and I have had no issues with them. I think based on where it is located the big thing will be heat resistance.

Like any hobby it has its own language. PLA, PETG, ABS and ASA are all different types of plastic that can be used on a 3d printer with PLA and PETG being the most common and generally the easiest to print.

Since the file is downloadable you could check with your local library. They might have a 3d printer you could use. It will probably take an hour or two (depends on type and age of printer) to print and would probably only cost a few dollars.
