Ok I gotta vent.
Got a canopy installed Saturday and while I expected the fit to be better but it is what it is.

But then 30 minutes later I get an SRS Airbag warning message and I stop by the Toyota dealership.
Toyota dealership 2 minutes from house -- Canopy place 40 minutes from house.

Next appointment is Tuesday -- Now they dig around and they say its a bad splice causing a fault.

Its your Dash cam ---
I say -- No that is using a Donger Adapter nothing was spliced and its been there since September

It must be the canopy wiring so I authorize the charge so they can document it and I can go against the canopy place for bad install.
Call Canopy place - Leave message as they are closed.

Talk to tech some more -- Remind him I want pics and statement about what caused the problem.
They say -- Well we will figure out if its a bad splice or a factory problem tomorrow.

Nice after I already amped up the canopy company about the problem -- Now you tell me you don't know for sure -- Just guessing?
Losing confidence in the dealership since the first thing they said was --- IT IS CAUSED BY A BAD SPLICE - Now they don't know.

I just know I am going to get stuck with the repair/diagnostic bill but I will be talking to the canopy people about the fit also.

Canopy company called me first thing this morning and wanted to talk directly to dealership.
He said they get info direct from Toyota on how to install.

Now I think cool its still possible the employee did a bad job but at least Canopy company and dealership can fight over it.
I'll update as it goes along.

To be fair -- The canopy company stepped up -- They paid Toyota directly for the repair -- $653.20
This took them about 3 hours to look into what was wrong.

Pretty low quality work and I am pretty sure the manager of the canopy company is going to have words with the installer.
At a minimum if you hack up the customers wires wrap some tape around it.

ok I may be stupid but whats a canopy? Like a shell or topper? If it's a topper, what the heck were they wiring in?

They have to wire in brake light and the lock so it works with the remote.

I will do a video review of the shell/topper/canopy as soon as my bronchitis clears up. (hard to talk lol)

While the shell/topper/canopy has a lot of good things about it -- There are a couple things people need to know about before they spend $3800+ on it - I may have looked at some other options but who knows if the other shell/topper/canopy in this same price point/style have similar issues.

ahhh the lock is probably what they were tying into in the door sill. MIne has manual locks and the third brake light is just connected to the trailer connection harness.

Exactly -- but You would think there would be an easier way to connect since the tailgate has a remote lock also....

Is the tailgate locking with the remote an option not all the trucks have?
That must be as why have the general directions from Leer having it wired all the way in the door sill?
