It's been a known issue that most Tacoma owners don't know how to adjust their audio when they get a text. So the music turns down, and you can hear the text being read out. Sure, some might have looked but can’t find it in CarPlay settings, just like I initially did too.
One thing you should know is that Siri/message reader volume is separate from your music volume, so you have to adjust while Siri is talking or a message is being read (or directions are being read if you use voice).
For example, if you hold the volume up while Siri is telling you something, she will get louder, but your music volume will remain unchanged & vice versa. So far, this has been my go-to option for this issue.
