So, I've seen many people asking about wheel fitment. Specifically, if the same wheels that work on the 2G and 3G Tacoma work on the 4G. Something to note: this is the same wheel that also works on the 4G and 5G 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, and the older generation GXs.

Simply put, everything is identical, BUT the hub bore. The old hub bore is 106.1mm and the new one is 95.1mm. So if you run them as is, they become lug centric instead of hub centric as intended. Running a wheel lug centrically is way more likely to create vibrations as it loads the hub improperly. Does it work? Sure. But not without issues.

So what's the solution? Well, besides buying a 4G specific set, you'll need a hub adapter. There are aluminum and plastic versions. Aluminum can be problematic if you don't liberally anti-seize it since it can fuse to the steel hub. But proper maintenance should help prevent that. Plastic is a safer option in this sense, but can break easier.

Here are a few options. I bought the metal ones from Amazon to test a set of older generation TRD Pro wheels. The Gorilla one seems to be a higher quality plastic option.

Attached are a couple pictures for reference. You can see how closely the adapter hugs the hub. This

How do you deal with the wheel lugs being different G3 to G4? The older wheels are set up for 12mm lugs, where the 4G wheels are 14mm.

I covered that portion in the thread above. Check it out. Bottom line, it won't work unless you get a spacer that steps the lug nuts down.
