Hey everyone,

I’m looking for Tacoma specific input on windshield care and replacement. Has anyone here had to replace their windshield on a 4th Gen lately?

Was the OEM glass noticeably better than aftermarket in terms of clarity, NVH (noise, vibration, harshness), and durability?

I’m also curious about protective options like rain repellent coatings or protective films. Are they worth applying before off road trips or highway driving?

For those who’ve dealt with chips turning into cracks, what was your repair versus replace decision process?

Any product or install tips Tacoma owners swear by?

thanks in advance for any help

Don't know if this information will be much help.. rain repellant coatings would be a new sales pitch to me. I've always fought the insurance company to pay the small amount extra to go OEM as I don't want to find out the glass is different in any measurable way. It's hard to upgrade a windshield outside of a ceramic tint.. chips are repairable but you're bonding a resin to a glass, I would not attempt to repair a crack. A lot of southern US states have insurance coverage that allows for a windshield replacement that doesn't effect your premiums. I'd personally start there (asking your insurer) and aim for stock.

I would stick with OEM, or find out who makes them, and order that supplier brand. It will be the same thing.

The coatings can work, yeah. A real ceramic coating would help the most.

Small chips can be watched or filled. Anything that cracks, unless it's a small bull's eye, usually needs a replacement. Very tough to fix cracks, if not impossible.

Not sure what you mean by install, I would have it done professionally. You will also (I believe) need to go to the dealer to do a calibration.
