Last October, we got a group of trucks running 74Weld portals to hit the Rubicon before the season ended.

If you've heard of the Rubicon, you probably know it's a tough trail. 13+ miles of pretty much nonstop boulders and obstacles. Typically done in 2-3 days.

We did a lot to prepare for this one, but one thing was proven to be pretty much essential, especially for the technical spots. If you read the title, you already know it's a front locker. A lot of rigs heading out there already have a rear one (usually from the factory), so that's why I bring up the front here. You definitely need a rear one too (Eaton makes rears for those who don't have one). Can you run the Rubicon without a front locker? Sure you can. But you're not getting through every obstacle and hard line without winching or needing a pull.

The point is, I was shocked by how well the whole truck performed. And while the credit is obviously attributed to things like ground clearance from the portals, bigger tires, high clearance armor, etc., the front locker is what ultimately got me the traction needed to conquer things like the "Soup Bowl" obstacle, which was wet from cold, wet weather. You should have seen my face, lol. I knew the truck was capable, but this whole trip was next level.

The electronic part is great. It functions even more easily than the factory rear. I wired it to my sPOD and it works perfectly. The activation is pretty much immediate. And the increase in traction is impressive. Overall, very happy with this setup. If you plan on doing any tougher trails or you're already heading into a regear, I highly recommend you take advantage and throw one of these in.

Of course... here are some high resolution shots from our trip. Enjoy!

Now thats a proven trail to put some lockers to the test. Love to see a product be put to the test in serious conditions and be put through the ringer like they actually will be. The additional traction on obstacles like that has got to make a major difference. Keeping this one in the cart for the future!

Pictures are crispy! looks like an epic adventure
