Shared the wheel desk in another post, but that was just a bonus! Take a look at this system from BamBeds.
These guys make a lot of products for the Toyota space. I previously paired one their original platforms for the Tacoma with my GFC. It was nice to have a "top" and "bottom" floor setup. Worked well with my dog and cat, but I'm sure it would apply to kids. It's also relatively lightweight and easily removable.
The Solo platform is different because it lets you use the full interior of the bed on a raised platform, but also remove the smaller half on the driver's side to make more room, if needed. Ultimately, you could use it strictly as storage, or a sleeping platform. Lay a mattress on top and you've got a decent bed. 5' bed can be a little cramped, but I've slept on a diagonal or with with shoulders elevated on the back wall pretty comfortably. 6' bed provides a really nice sleeping area. Pretty spacious, all things considered. The empty space below can be used for boxes, etc.
Alternatively, in the empty space below, you can pair the platform with the Sliders. These slide over the bed surface and act like a hinge-less, friction drawer slide. My buddy Justin bolted a bunch of stuff to a set. Packout box, camp stove, and some other boxes, tools, etc. It was all secure and easy to access. Pretty rad.
Anyway, let me know what you think. Ideally, naturally, this will work best with a topper/camper of some kind. That could be a GFC, fiberglass shell, or something like a Softopper. It could also be compatible with one of those truck bed tents, but I'm not sure. Something to test. Or if you really don't mind being out in the open, directly in the truck bed will work too! Haha. They move around a little bit, but it's a relatively tight fit as everything is contoured to the bed dimensions.
