weBoost Drive Reach Overland – Worth It? (4th Gen Tacoma)

What’s up guys,

Been running the weBoost Drive Reach Overland for a bit now on my 4th Gen and finally got some real use out of it. If you’re doing desert runs, mountains, or remote camping, you already know how fast service disappears.

Picked this up mainly for navigation + staying connected when I’m way out there.
My setup:
  • 37” Mastertrack Badlands M/T
  • Method 709 Bead Grips
  • CBI rack + gear
  • ROAM boxes
Mostly desert + mountain use.

Set up & look:
Sits above the rack and actually looks pretty clean with the build. Doesn’t get in the way of gear at all and I mounted the antenna off the rack to get it higher. Even when the trunk is fully loaded- there is absolutely no placement issues.

Where I noticed the biggest difference: desert use.
Before:
  • 0–1 bars
  • Maps lagging
  • No texts

After:
  • Signal actually usable
  • Maps load
  • Messages send
Not magic—you still need some signal—but it helps a lot.

Final take:

One of those mods you don’t think about until you need it.

If you stay local → probably not needed
If you go remote → worth it

Feels more like a safety upgrade than anything.

Let me know below what antenna set up you guys are running below!

I've had one on my 4R for 6-7 years. It gets used when I'm out in the weeds. I had it boost a bar, and I've had it boost 3 bars. It's not very consistent, but it does help. One comment I will make is Starlink is cheaper. It does require a subscription, and it works better and more consistent. But, that is only if you mount it while driving, which I don't.
