I had my TRD-OR 6MT dyno tuned today by https://www.camtuningperformance.com/. Cam came over to the house on Saturday after a club breakfast, and did a minor tune on my truck. Today, he did his dyno tune. I was pleased after the minor tune he did on Saturday. I was super impressed driving home this afternoon after the dyno tune. I can't wait to get the truck on the road for another adventure.

This was on 91 octane and 285/70 tires.

Awesome! Love to see the data to back these things up. So is this something anyone can get? Or just this one specific tuner did this just for you locally? Just an ecu flash and tune? Or is there some kind of module?

Cam starts with the Cobb AccessPort which plugs into the service port under the dash. You would need to visit his website for details. As I understand it, Cobb has a tune in the AccessPort for the Gen4 Tacoma that can be bought. But, Cam has the ability to tune the engine further on the dyno. Yes, anybody can get this.

Once the tune is uploaded you don't need to have the AccessPort installed. But, it also serves as an OBDII reader, and you can customize the screen with up to 6 variables to monitor while driving. The one I really wanted was an actual number for turbo boost, instead of that silly sweep on the dash.

Interesting. Glad to see other alternatives hitting the market. Do you feel a big difference driving?

After Cam did a driveway tune on Saturday we went for a putt. The first thing I noticed was throttle response from a standing stop. With the 285/70's and the camper the truck was a slug to get moving. Not any more. The difference between before and after was huge. The truck has a lot more pep across the board.

One thing I learned is Toyota "de-rated" the manual trucks. They make slightly less power (-8hp) than the automatics, and the redline on the manual trucks is way less (~5200rpm vs 6600rpm). For some reason Toyota did this to make the EPA happy (emission purposes). Cam raised my redline to the automatic spec along with a bunch of programming voodoo.

Excellent feedback! I'll have to dig into it some more. I hear the hybrid motors can also be tuned. Definitely looking to squeeze more power out. I would be interested in a bigger turbo as well. I was told the motors can handle a good amount of power from the factory.
