Has anyone really thought about getting some aftermarket wheel well liners? It seems to me there is a lot of important stuff that will get covered in salt and mud behind there.

They are definitely on my list, and I'm looking at getting one from Rough Country, although I'm not sure if lack of airflow to dry out the frame will be an issue.

I can't really say why Toyota left them open like that.It makes me wonder if there was a reason other than the six dollars it would cost them to stamp full liners.

I mentioned something on this forum awhile back and was faced with confusion - the Tacomas technically have liners but not like the traditional ones (full coverage) on full-size trucks. I love the look and added protection, but have gotten used to the current look to not care as much as when I first got it.

It's actually not that bad to be honest. Just like you said, some added protection is never a bad thing. As long as you're okay with driving the truck like that, then the extra mods don't really count that much.
