Power Outlet Locations​


Your Tacoma is equipped with 120V AC power outlets in two convenient locations:

Interior Console Box Outlet

Located in the rear of the center console box. Open the lid to access the outlet and the AC120V switch that controls both outlet locations.

Bed Outlet

Located in the bed area for powering equipment and appliances while camping or at a worksite. Open the lid to access this outlet.

Both outlets are controlled by a single AC120V switch. When you press it, both locations are activated or deactivated together.

How to Turn the Outlets On​


  1. Press the AC120V switch located on the center console.
  2. The power outlets can be used when the indicator on the AC120V switch is illuminated.
  3. The outlets are toggled on/off each time you press the switch. Press once to turn on, press again to turn off.
  4. Verify the engine is running before expecting the outlets to supply power. They will not function if the engine is off.

The Critical 100W vs. 400W Power Capacity Distinction​


This is the most important specification to understand about your Tacoma's power outlets.

The maximum power available depends on TWO factors: whether you're driving, and (when parked) what gear your transmission is in.

While You're Driving

Maximum capacity: 120V AC / 100W

This applies regardless of gear selection or shift lever position. When the vehicle is in motion, the outlets are limited to 100W maximum. This limitation exists for electrical system stability and safety while operating the vehicle.

When You're Parked: Shift Lever in P (Park) or N (Neutral)

Maximum capacity: 120V AC / 400W

When parked with the engine running and transmission in Park or Neutral, you get access to 400W of power. This is the high-capacity mode, useful for powering refrigerators, higher-draw tools, and multiple devices simultaneously.

When You're Parked: Shift Lever in Any Other Position (D, R, L, etc.)

Maximum capacity: 120V AC / 100W

Even when parked but not in P or N, you're limited to 100W. Always shift to Park or Neutral if you need 400W capacity.

Restoring 400W Capacity After Power Cutoff

If the power outlet has been limited to 100W and you want to restore full 400W capability (when in P or N):

  1. Shift the transmission into P (Park) or N (Neutral)
  2. Turn the AC120V switch OFF
  3. Turn the AC120V switch back ON
  4. The 400W capacity is now restored (if shift lever is still in P or N)

Note: The maximum capacity of 400W can only be restored by turning the power outlet main switch off and then on again.

Understanding the Protection Circuit​
