After over a year of looking for a wedge style camper for my truck and considering over 50 different options I settled on BYND 4x4. The biggest reason for this was it's the only option I could find that is specifically designed for the 4G Tacoma with the little wing off the rear of the cab. All the other camper companies just too the 3g camper and slid it back on the bed and put a spacer between the front of the bed and camper to make room for the wing. this solution opens up more area for water leaks and is really just not the best looking. The BYND camper has a cutout in the camper specifically for the 4G resulting in perfect fitment and a great look. I also went with the camper for the price. It was $8,500 installed out the door which is many thousands less than most other options with the quality being up there with the best. It is a Chinese made camper which is how it's priced the way it is but the owner of the company went to china and made specific changes with the manufacture to make it as high end as possible. I work in the industry and again the quality is on par or above every other camper out there. It also comes with all the features at that price. Insulating tent layer, rear light, cab and tail windows. All options that usually add another grand onto the cost of the camper. It also has TEN! connection point to the bed in comparison to most other designs at four connection points which is great because I beat and jump my truck almost every week. I love supporting US manufacturing and jobs when I can but I personally can't swing 12-15 thousand dollars on a name brand tent especially when most of them are just "assembled" in the US. Props to GFC for being fully made here in the US though. I think that's awesome and I might have saved up more for one of their campers if I didn't dislike how they look on the new gens and their 4g wing solution. I might've also gone for the Super Pacific if again their 4G wing solution wasn't just a spacer and if I could've swung the 14-15k price point. On that note I think the BYND is one of the best looking campers out there. It's definitely inspired by the Super Pacific camper but with more aggressive cues which I was looking for on my build.
Idk. I wish there was a US made option at this price point, designed for the 4G and looked as good as this one but there isn't and this seems to be the best option with a US based owner and customer support. At the end of the day I'm still supporting a local company while getting a product I'm super happy with so far. I've stayed eight nights in it already and have no complaints. The bed platform is one big aluminium piece that lifts up with hydraulics so you can stand in the bed and then just pull it down when you're going to sleep. All the doors open up easy and are lockable and the tent is set up the be accessorized with L track and bolt holes everywhere.
Take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think! Should I have just sucked it up and went with a US brand that cost more and is designed worse or is my reasoning fair?
