Hey all,

Has anyone here gone down the tuning route with their 4th gen yet? I’ve been curious what’s out there and if anyone has first-hand experience.

Couple things I’m wondering:
  • Does tuning these trucks mess with the warranty, or has anyone had issues at the dealer because of it?
  • Was it actually worth it in terms of drivability, throttle response, or mpg gains?
  • I had the OTT tune on my last 5th gen 4Runner and really liked it and it made a big difference in how it drove. I’ve heard OTT might be one of the better options for the new Tacos too. Anyone here running it yet?
Not saying I’m ready to jump in tomorrow, just curious what’s out there and how it’s working for people. I am definitely nervous about messing with warranties.

I've seen more and more tunes popping up. But... I've also heard some potential issues occurring with the hybrid models. I haven't confirmed if anyone has 100% figured it out yet. But the non-hybrids seem to be doing okay.

But unless it screws with the ECU and there's an issue, you would technically not void warranty. But they can see if it's been done. If the claims live up to it, I think tailoring to tire size, gears, pedal responsiveness, and a safe amount of added boost would be great. The boost portion does worry me a little bit more than my last truck, a 3G Tacoma. I ran several tunes with zero issues. But that's a different platform.

Yotawerx tuning our 6th Gen soon. I've been hesitant, though, after hearing OTT bricked my boys' 4th Gen hybrid.
Oh man that is my fear. I loved my OTT on my 5th gen and I am sure the power jump would be nice on the new taco, but not if it bricks it

Yeah that's my thought too. Kinda wanna see how this platform does before adding too much more power to it.

I plan to start with a Pedal Commander until the tunes become more common for the 4G.
