Just got my hands on some of the new Rigid Industries Phoenix Series lights, and I wanted to throw up an initial impressions post before I get everything installed this week.

My Setup Plan

  • Rear: 2x Phoenix Pods (5”)
  • Front: 2x Phoenix XL Pods (7”)
  • Control: Switch-Pros SP9100 (installing this week)
  • That is all (for now), might have another exciting piece on the way, but I will update you guys on that when it comes.
I’ll be running everything through the Switch-Pros so I can keep it clean, organized, and fully controllable from inside the cab.

Right away I was impressed with these lights, the build quality is impressive and it's exactly what you expect and hope for from Rigid Industries. What I really liked right out of the box is these pods have a VERY aggressive and modern look which already has me excited to get them mounted and wired on the truck. They are also a pretty hefty light due to all of the impressive components inside which makes them feel like a very premium piece.

Another HUGE selling piece to these for me is the ability to customize your color on the fly with a click of the button which should work out nicely with my Switch-Pro. Rigid describes these options as full power, warm white, amber, cool white, natural white, and my personal favorite, amber backlighting functionality.

You can also change the output on both lights by repositioning the magnet. This allows you to change how much light you want to throw and how many amps you want to use which is nice if you are trying to stay within a certain amp draw.

For the Phoenix Pod:

Low Power (no magnet)
3.6A @14v

Medium Power
6.7a @14v

High Power
9.6a @14v

For the Phoenix XL Pod:

Low Power (no magnet)
4.4a @14v

Medium Power
9.5a @14v

High Power
13.9a @14v

Lastly, the lights as we are used to have interchangeable lenses you can get to change the beam pattern.

Here is a closer photo of the flagship Phoenix Pod, and man is it a good looking light. These will likely be getting mounted off the rear of the truck on my Backwoods rack and will be run as my utility light off the rear or if someone gets too close (kidding these would probably blind someone).
Quick specs that stood out to me:

  • ~10,100 raw lumens
  • 134 watts
  • Beam distance up to ~788m (.25 lux)
  • Tight spot beam (~19.7° horizontal)
These should throw serious distance behind the truck, which is exactly what I wanted instead of a super wide flood. I am curious to see how these work out as they will throw a lot light off the rear, it definetely is going to be a bit overkill and a large amount of light, but that is what this build is all about! Size wise I think they will look pretty good off of the back of the truck and should be super useful in real-world situations.

Here is a closer look path the MASSIVE Phoenix XLs, wish you could see how massive these bad boys are. I swung by a shop to look around at Switch-Pros and everyone inside dropped everything they were doing just to take a peak at these things, they are seriously impressive.
Specs are pretty wild:

  • ~14,200 raw lumens
  • 191 watts
  • Beam distance up to ~941m (.25 lux)
  • Peak intensity over 221k candela
These feel like a seriously insane pod that honestly has me very excited to get these on and wired. Everything about the design and the specs points towards distance and intensity, not just some raw lumen numbers. I think with the impressive candela these will also cut through the darkness like no other.

The size difference is also noticeable in person, the 7” XLs look substantial. They should fill out the front end nicely and actually look like they belong on a more aggressive build.

These are absolutely a very serious light for serious builds looking for some insane lighting potential. I think they will stand out compared to a lot of other lights on the market at the same price point, but I also think these will absolutely turn some heads.

I am honestly so excited for these lights and I think it's exactly what the truck needs to bring it up another level. Rigid has always been an outstanding company with outstanding quality but these lights feel like a leap in the right direction for them and it super cool to see them always innovating and adapting with this pretty rapidly changing field.

I will also be getting the Phoenix 40" Connect Bar in the coming weeks and should have that wired up pretty quick as well and I will absolutely update you guys once I get that in.

There definitely is going to be no hiding from the truck with these bad boys, that's for sure.
