So I went for it! After telling myself I wouldn't do 35's for a couple years I decided screw it and couldn't be happier with them but not everyone should do it.
Overall very impressed with how the truck handles the bigger tires. Doesn't feel sluggish or like it needs a regear at all. Off road performance is much better especially aired down in the snow/mud. Crazy how capable this truck is now while also still riding amazing on the road. Speaking of that I thought the tires would be much louder than the 33" A/T's I had on before. To my surprise though there's only a slight NVH increase in the cab even with the M/T tires. I can still whisper to my passenger doing 75 on the highway. That's a huge reason I love the 4G over the 3G, way more comfortable and quiet interior making mods like this more reasonable.
For trimming there's not much to worry about. With a 0 offset wheel I just had to trim a little off the front bumper and take the crash plate out. They clear great now and from what I understand if you get something like a plus 25-30 wheel you don't have to clearance at all!
Now why shouldn't most people go with 35's even though I love them. Well this is basically my trail rig. I only use it for off roading, adventures, camping etc. I have a daily for around town and commuting. So I don't mind the biggest draw back.....MPG. The 35's drastically decreased my MPG down to about 11 city 14 highway. I was getting low twenties stock and with the A/T's before I added all the steel to the truck. Keep in mind the truck is only ever fully loaded with gear and about 1,000lbs of modifications and I drive like an ass. Simple mods with just 35's probably wouldn't be as bad. Another reason is while the truck handles them well, handling and acceleration are decreased. For a daily I don't think it's worth it unless you really want the look and are willing to sacrifice everything like MPG.
Now for people interested in the budget option Arroyo M/T's I love them. They've been more than capable even in the snow and for as much as I go through tires after owning these and about 2k miles I don't see a reason to get a more expensive name brand. I'll update if this changes once I put more miles on but for now I can recommend them.
I hope this helps anyone deciding on what they want to do and let me know if you have any questions!
