I’ve surpassed the 1,500 mile mark since installing the ARB MT64 from Mudify and wanted to give my initial thoughts on how I’ve liked them for those of you who maybe interested in this kit.
For starters there’s no fancy setup or anything out of the norm, they were taken out of the box and directly bolted on. Installed was the front shock assembly, upper control arms, rear shock and rear springs. My truck see’s a lot of highway miles, light low speed off-roading and moderate high speed off-roading like fire roads. On Road:
Truck rides nice on the highway! From stock suspension the MT64 has eliminated brake dive and almost all body roll on the corners. With the digressive valving they’re on the stiffer side but in no means are they uncomfortable or harsh. Potholes, small bumps and sudden shock compressions are no problem and the shocks react positively to them. However I’ve noticed with no weight in the bed the rear end is mildly hoppy because of that. If you’ll be running any sort of bed setup or bumper in the rear this shouldn’t be a problem for you at all.
I spend a lot of time driving so I wanted something that’d be comfortable and it has received my stamp of approval on that front. Over the last 1500 miles the shocks have broken in and settled just a smidge which I’ve been happy with.
Off Road:
I like to call myself a soft roader or a weekend overlander as the off-roading I do is mostly tame with some light rock crawling. Performance of the shocks on the fire roads both high speed and low speed is great! The high speed scenarios is where the shock valving starts to open up and rip. Comfortable and smooth as the speed rolls into the 35+ zone but just like the on road experience the rear end is hoppier than I’d like which is a problem for me not having any weight back there.
The light rock crawling the truck feels fine, nothing out of the ordinary to note other than the rebound is faster and the I really enjoy having the internal bump stop on the front shocks to catch any sort of bottoming out chances.
MT64’s get two big thumbs up for my initial thoughts. As the truck build evolves and modifications get put on I’ll continue to monitor the ride quality and report back, however I suspect no changes in the drivability and comfort this kit offers, if anything the extra weight will help!
