I am getting ready to purchase a 2024 Tacoma, this will be my first ever Toyota. I am thinking about putting larger tires on my truck and wanted to know if I need to also purchase new rims.

You might be able to achieve the same desired look with a more aggresive tread pattern than a larger tire, and keep the OEM rims. What is the reason for wanting larger tires?

More aggressive look.

Then depending on which Tacoma trim you decide on you’ll just be looking for All Terrain or Mud Terrain tires instead of the Highway All Seasons that come on it.

Others on this forum can chime in on your original question, about increasing the rim size. But in my opinion that usually involves lift kits, possible rubbing, and definitely a decrease in your fuel mileage.

If the OEM wheel/tire package was 245/70R17, you need to look for a tire with a wheel diameter of 17".

35X12.5R17 (35") Usually a "True" 35" tire
305/70r17 (34") Wide 34" tire - close to a 35"
295/70R17 (34") Tall/skinny 34" tire
285/70R17 (33") The go-to 33" tire

The hybrid comes with 265/70r18 or "33" tires on the Off-Road for example so you would look for a tire with a wheel diameter of 18".

35X12.5R18 (35") Usually a "True" 35" tire
305/70r18 (34") Wide 34" tire - close to a 35"
295/70R18 (34") Tall/skinny 34" tire
285/70R18 (33") The go-to 33" tire

Any of those sizes would be a good fit on the 4th Gen Tacoma.
