My new ARB OME MT64 kit got installed a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted to drop my initial few thoughts on this kit below. Haven't seen much hands-on content out there for these yet. The shock bodies are massive. Essentially a 2.8" body. The 64 stands for 64mm, which is the piston size. So plenty of capacity for a truck like the Tacoma, even if you decide to push the truck hard. For the install, I had a shop do it, and they completed it in a little under a full day with an alignment. The front shocks came preassembled (from Mudify) in the middle (third) position of the 6 adjustment collars, which helped save a lot of time. If you're looking to adjust the height, you'll need a spring compressor to get enough slack to move the collar to the desired setting. With the kit providing up to 3" of lift, the middle (third) collar position will give you about 1.5" of lift in the front (on a stock truck), which is optimal in most applications. To wrap things up, I also got the OME control arms that provide the flexibility to make alignment adjustments after lifting your truck. Serviceability is a huge win for these control arms; the inner pivots are maintenance-free, and the ball joint is greaseable. In the back, all your lift comes from the rear springs. I got the standard version. One of the more noticeable 4th Gen changes this year is no more leaf springs (YAY), instead, there are coil springs like the 4Runner models. ARB offers a standard (0-400lbs) or a medium (400-800lbs) spring, depending on how much weight you'll put onto the rear. The stock suspension was a bit sloppy, with considerable body roll, and was pretty harsh when taking bumps at high speeds. I'm sure most of you can relate. With the MT64, I've noticed the overall ride quality is more plush at both low and high speeds. The rebound isn't as aggressive as I've felt over train tracks, road bumps, and curbs, and the nose doesn't dive either when last-minute braking is applied. Overall, I've been quite happy with the initial ride quality and don't see it changing anytime soon! We'll have to see how it performs on the trail, but I'll report back asap there. 4th Gen TRD OR stock suspension height (ground to start of fender flare)... Im trying to find a mounting bracket to fit aftermarket 6.5" coaxials. Crutchfield sells Metra which is 7.8" thick. Plenty of room for the magnets but too thick for the door panel to go back on. Does anyone know of a slimmer mounting bracket I can buy for this application?
