Hi everyone,

I’m curious about the towing capacity of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and any possible modifications to increase it. From what I’ve read, the Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 pounds when properly equipped, which is quite impressive for its class.

Have you towed anything near the Tacoma’s maximum capacity? How did it perform?

Are there any aftermarket upgrades or modifications you recommend to enhance towing capability?

What are your experiences with towing equipment like weight distribution hitches or brake controllers?

Looking forward to your insights and recommendations!

Here are some details I’ve found:

Standard Towing Capacity: The base model offers a towing capacity of around 3,500 pounds, while the TRD Pro and other trims with the towing package can reach up to 6,800 pounds.
Engine Options: The available 3.5L V6 engine provides the power needed for heavier loads, especially when paired with the right towing package.
Questions for the Group:

From what I’ve seen the 2024 Tacoma tops out at about 6,500 lbs with the gas motor and closer to 6,000 with the hybrid, so the 6,800 number floating around is from older gens. I haven’t towed max yet but with the right setup it should do better: brake controller, trailer brakes, and a weight distribution hitch would help a lot. Cooling or suspension upgrades can make it a lot more comfortable and reduce the risk of breaking things. Anyone here actually pulled close to 6k with theirs?
