What Was Your Previous Vehicle Before Moving to the Tacoma?

I had a 2.5 Tundra, previously owned a Ford Ram, then got a 3rd Gen Taco, and now the 4th Gen taco.

Overall, I miss the space on my Tundra but overall, my Taco has been the best.

Would love to hear stories of other 4th Gen owners. What was your previous vehicle before getting the Tacoma and is the Tacoma your favorite?

Last three trucks have been Dodge ram, I’ve been a lifelong Plymouth/Dodge guy until the motor on my 2012 died when the water pump seized. I decided to try something different because I didn’t feel like the new Rams had a tech advantage and we’re overpriced. My brother talked me into looking at a taco, and so far I’ve been nothing but pleased with my 2024 TD off-road premium.

A 2022 Ford F-150 Powerboost (one of my only non-Toyota vehicles in my lifetime). At the time it had the hybrid features I wanted.

But once I saw the new Tacoma design and a video on YouTube of a 6’8” guy fitting in I was sold. I’m 6’4” torso tall, so the previos gen Tacomas were not suitable for me.

My previous two vehicles was a 2007 Tacoma Pre runner RWD. Never let me down and I was the 2nd owner at 180,000 miles. Then sold it when I got to 245,000 miles. Never let me down. It was a great taco. It was fast and simple tech.

Before the 2nd gen I had a 1st gen, a 1999 single cab long bed Tacoma. That was right after high school (12 years ago). Mileage was about 250,000+ miles. The 1st gen’s do look quite small compared to the 4th gen.

Until December last year went with a 4th gen.

I did test drive a 3rd gen, but the power just didn’t feel right. Maybe in the future I’ll buy one as a project car.

With my 4th gen, so far no issues and at 10,500 miles. Great.

Awesome back story there. I've always loved Dodge as a company cause it screams American.
It's reliable just like Toyota but I think what makes Toyota stand out, is class. Side by side, Toyota seems futuristic more than Dodge and that's why most people would prefer Toyota.

You've been a Taco fanboy for a long long time lol. Honestly I love hearing stuff like this. I wasn't as early as you were to the Taco party but so far, glad to be on-board.

Also, great mileage numbers on your previous trucks and no issues, not a lot of owners can boast of that. Shows you didn't joke with the maintenance of your vehicles. Thanks for sharing your story. Hope to get to those mileage numbers one day with my 4th Gen. A great truck all-round.

One of the few trucks i wasn't privileged to drive was the F-150. Heard stories from owners hyping it up. Maybe one day, taking it for a test drive won't the a bad idea. Watched the video on YouTube btw, was a good one and shows why getting the 4th Gen Taco is never a bad idea.

You’re not missing too much. Although I did like how the back seats folded up and provided a flat floor for extra cargo space. Also, when ordering, I was able to customize it to exactly what I wanted (and didn’t). But other than that I knew it wouldn’t last as long nor was the build quality and materials up to par with Toyota.

Opposite of reliable - after timing chain & valve assemblies grenaded themselves 3 times, 1 engine replacement, and 8 months in the shop later I needed something I could trust. Miss the power and room of the Raptor but the Tacoma has surprising torque delivery in the low RPM range, looks great, and most importantly I can trust it/Toyota.

Yep, I agree 100%. Toyota tends to err on the side of caution and over-engineers its parts.

Sorry you had to shed some tears ... I know what it's like to lose a car you really loved. So far, how have you been enjoying the Taco and are you glad you traded in your jeep for the Taco?

When it comes to longevity, durability, and reliability, not too many vehicle companies come close to Toyota. Been a long time fan of them and so far, they've been doing a great job with their recent vehicles. So you're glad you moved to the 4G Taco and hope it has made you not to miss your 4Runner that much anymore?

Heard some nice stories about the Ford Raptor, didn't know it wasn't a vehicle to rely on for the long term.

Not too many trucks can compare with Toyota and since I got my 4G Taco, I've never had a single doubt in my mind that it was ever going to leave me stranded anyway. Hasn't also given me any overly serious issue since I got it.

The 3rd Gen Tacoma isn't bad at all but I won't lie, the 4th Gen is slightly more awesome. It's just a matter of time Justin, you'll get yourself a 4th Gen. For now, just keep on enjoying your 3rd Gen and try to create as many more amazing memories as you can with her. She's a good one.
