2024 TRD Off Road
My 2 week old 2024 TRD OR with 200 miles on it suddenly started throwing numerous malfunction warning and long story short the engine seized due to some oil nipple near the oil cooler blew off and also blew off the oil filter. Engine lost all its oil and died. Truck at dealership since August 30th. I am currently working with Toyota Corp in an effort to be made whole again with a new truck. Time will only tell. I have the whole story on 2 other Tacoma forums. Hoping it's a 1 off freak thing but just adding on to the mounting mechanical issues Toyota is experiencing now.

It has to be an isolated incident but have read numerous reports of the dashboard warning messages flashing but none ending in my results. Toyota corp has been ok. They started out giving me false info regarding the process but kept pushing until I got the right rep on the phone. Lemon Law process started and they responded to me quickly but are pushing to have me accept the truck back after the local dealership rebuilds the engine. I told them I want to be bought out and made whole or give me a new truck. They will be back to me within 30 days but I think a Lemon Law attorney will do better than I would. Getting ready to make the second payment on a truck I drove 5 times and we have lost weeks of income.. so handing it off to them to fight for me. The dealership pretty much doesn't give a shit.

Yeah.... once she knew I was going that route they acted quickly. I was surprised but glad. I need this bullshit over with. 52 days carless sucks! BTW.... Toyota offers rental reimbursement but heard if they pay for a rental they try to take that amount of days off of the days lost while in dealership so I didn't rent

I'm thinking this week I'm going to get a call from the dealership with an effort to make sure that whatever deal I make with Toyota they will end up putting me in a new truck. I'm very hesitant to go back into the 2024 seeing that they are having numerous re-occurring problems, not in massive amounts like the Tundra, but these trucks just started rolling out and time will tell. I might take my money and run. I'm so freakin disgusted how the dealership has responded to this... they don't give a shit ....YET! Maybe look for a good deal on a 2023 with low mileage or take a 2024 Nissan Pro 4X (non-turbo V6, more HP but less torque) for a spin. The only way I would take a new 2024 Tacoma as a replacement is if Toyota comped me a 10 yr/ 123k Platinum Warranty along with it. I do not anticipate Toyota making me a good first offer and if it is an insulting one I'll just hand it over to a Lemon Law attorney. Toyota has to pay those legal fees in this state.

Update: My truck is still at the service department (72 days) and no ETA on when repair will be finished. Last week I signed an offer from Toyota Corp. They are buying me out of the truck. I should be hearing from the 3rd party company that does the process in next 2 weeks. I didn't get a Lemon Law lawyer because everything in the offer was according to Utah State Lemon Laws. Didn't want this to take any longer trying to fight for anything extra. The dealership, Stephen Wade Toyota in Saint George, Utah, has done absolutely nothing for me during this process.

I'm definitely going to do that but will wait until its all over because in the settlement the dealership has to write me a $974 check and I believe they are such scumbags they would delay the check. Once I get everything settled all bets are off.

got it. good luck man and keep us posted. hope everything will turn out in your favor

Long story short. Picked up the truck yesterday and will drive it until next week when Toyota is going to buy the truck back from me. Left the house today and the truck shuttered and shook, lost power, light show on the dash and same bullshit. Its back at Stephen Wade Toyota of Saint George, Utah. Needless to say I'm not a happy soldier!!

Got the truck back a few days later. They said it was a cracked spark plug. It now sits in my garage waiting to give back to Toyota. Reason I'm not driving it is the company that takes the truck back for Toyota sent me a list of anything and everything they will charge me for (scratches, missing anything, damage from bumper sticker removal.. the list goes on) when I hand it in. Counting the days to put this behind me. Oh.. and paid ANOTHER truck payment waiting!

Dude... this is nuts. Sorry you have to deal with this. Have they at least given you a replacement loaner?
