- 2025 Premium Off Road
Did a road trip with some friends last week. It involved quite a bit of off-roading and camping. Total trip was about 1500 miles of interstate, state roads and OnX rated roads rated from 3 - 5. No rock crawling but a few places semi technical. Started in Albuquerque to southern Arizona to Organ Pipe NP then el Camino del Diablo, and several roads in the Kofa Wildlife Refuge.
While off roading I spent about 50% of miles in 4H, 40% in 2H and 10% in 4 Lo. Had zero issues with overheating in 4H for several hours at a time. Total of about 400 off-road miles.
Highway and off-roading time was split about evenly.
Definitely prefer 4H for off-roading. Provided great traction and is geared right for less than 25 mph.
For information I have a 2025 OR Premium non-hybrid. I did replaced the oem tires with stock size, 265/70/17s KO3s C load. Highly recommend KO3s and I picked stock size since I tow a travel trailer often.
The Tacoma was solid. Zero complaints.
