What was Toyota thinking with putting an 18 gallon tank in the 4th gen Tacoma?? My wife's EV has more range than the Tacoma does on a full tank as I can't get more than 280 miles on a tank. I do mostly city driving with some highway but still even the 4Runner I had before would go nearly 340 miles on a tank.

I wish I had known this about the Tacoma before I leased it. I may be reconsidering the option to purchase this once the lease is up and may go to a used 3rd gen Tacoma or a Colorado new or used.

I was getting 350-400 last summer. Winter was down to 250-275, it was very cold -40 at times. Recently started creeping up to 300. I’ve got 285’s among many other mods now so I’m expecting 325-350 at best? Try to stay out of boost as much as you can, and give it time to break in.

But I’m still better off than my gen2 Tundra with the 26 gallon tank, so I’m happy 🤣

I had to tow a 5X9 U-Haul utility trailer (the one used for transporting motorcycles) today as I was towing a riding mower about 250 miles and I was a bit surprised at how much of a gas mileage hit that was on the Tacoma. Even with Tow/Haul enabled it seemed to want to gear hunt a but more than I was expecting, and this was with mainly interstate driving between 55-70 MPH. I ended up averaging about 14.5 MPG on the first tank with the trailer/mower. Weight between the two was about 1800lbs.

Agreed the the small tank really seems like a misstep from Toyota. Really feels like 22-25 gallon tank would have been a much better fit for truck life.
I'm at 10k mileage and I've never seen 300 miles on a tank and I do about 60/40 city/highway. 280's is the best it's ever been. And I only run 93 in her.

Had the same feeling about this when i bought it. Had the same tank on my Jetta before buying this. I did do some research and found a in-bed tank if anyone is interested. It just bolts into the red rails and then 1 or 2 in the bed itself. Not a bad idea for people taking long trips or off-grid.

This is a good find.
I hope we see more options down the road.

My truck is a mostly-stock SR5 and I am light on the pedal. Also, just about to hit 20,000 miles.
