Fuel Tank Capacity

What was Toyota thinking when designing the 4th gen and putting a smaller gas tank than the 3rd gen?? I have had mine since January and I have yet to get at least 300 miles out of a tank. Closer to 270 is what I’m averaging. I drive mostly city but still having to refuel this often sucks.

We all feel you, haha. The tank should be bigger. Tough to say this early, but there may be enough complaints to see an upgrade down the line when they do a refresh. In the meantime, we'll have to wait and see what auxiliary or larger gas tanks are made available.

I am only getting 254 miles per tank (16.8 mpg if I baby it). This really sucks when I have to gas up when I leave home and then gas again before I get home on trips that I had no problem with my 2012 X-terra (range 300-325). I look forward to someone coming up with a larger tank replacement or auxiliary tank.

That's another gripe I have about the 4th gen. The turbo 4-cylinder is supposed to be more fuel efficient than the outgoing V6 but honestly I've been seeing at the very most 17mpg when driving my mix of city and highway. I'd much rather have the naturally aspirated V6 with no turbo to break than this if I'm going to be getting similar gas mileage.

My only other gripe really is the infotainment system with switching between bluetooth and SXM as I have to cycle through Apple Music/Amazon Music that I don't have set up and don't see a way to remove from the list of sources. In my wife's Blazer EV it's easy to use the mode button, select which source, and push in the OK button. On my Tacoma I feel like I have to use the touch screen to really do this which is distracting.

When discussing range it's sad that our Blazer EV has more range than the Tacoma.

Give it a few months to figure out your driving habits. Then, upon fill ups it will calculate based on your average mpg. I’m getting average 25+ mpg, so it often displays ~ 400 miles. Mind you, there’s still an extra 2.5 gallons from when the low gas light comes on, so in reality it’s more like 450 miles for me (which I do in a week anyhow).

I feel ya regarding the sources of other music inputs coming up despite not having them installed. Wonder if one of those OBDII scanner/modifiers could assist?! I.e., Carista.
